DSWD holds adoption info drive in malls

THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 7 will put up adoption help desks at the SM City Cebu and SM City Consolacion today and tomorrow, Feb. 20-21, to discuss the legal adoption process to couples and individuals who are interested to adopt a child.

Kerwin Macopia of the DSWD 7 said this is in line with the celebration of the Adoption Consciousness Week, which runs from Feb. 17-24.

The theme for this year’s celebration is “Legal na Ampon Ako: Anak na Totoo” (A Child Finds Worth in Legal Adoption), which underscores that adopted children have the same rights like biological children.

The week-long celebration kicked off with a motorcade, which was participated by various child-caring agencies like the Albert Schwitzer Familienwerk Foundation Inc., Asilo de la Milagrosa, Children Shelter of Cebu, Children of Cebu Foundation Inc. (Pari-an Drop in Center), Christ of Asia, Norfil Foundation Inc., My Bonita Home for Girls, Our Lady of Divine Providence Home of the congregation of St. John the Baptist and DSWD’s Reception and Study Center for Children (RSCC).

The children who were already adopted and those who are still in care centers showcased their talents in singing and dancing during the program.

DSWD 7 Assistant Director for Operations Shalaine Marie Lucero advised the children to love and respect their foster parents.

“We hope that you continue to obey your foster parents, follow the rules of your caring institution and pray that a right family consider you as their own,” said Lucero.

A poster-making contest will be held today at the Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center II in Barangay Labangon, Cebu City.

The celebration will culminate with an educational tour to theme parks and museum- Rainforest Park cebu, The Family Park and Museo Sugbo.
