Countdown begins for city athletes

THE countdown begins as the Davao City delegation departs today for the Davao Regional Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet 2015 slated February 24 to 28 in Mati City, Davao Oriental.

Department of Education (DepEd)-Davao City division sports coordinator Jima Gelmo, in an interview at the sidelines of the send-off ceremony program at the Davao City National High School (DCNHS) Saturday, said: "We will leave for Mati City two days earlier from the opening day of Davraa to give time for our athletes to familiarize with their respective playing venues. They can train and practice before the competition starts."

The Davao City Cluster will be fielding in a total of 600-member delegation composed of athletes, coaches, chaperons and Deped officials.

"Once we arrive in Mati, the delegation will attend a mandatory courtesy call before the city government officials before we can proceed to our billeting quarter," Gelmo said.

The Davao City delegation will stay at the Davao Oriental College for Science and Techonology, saying:"Gwapo ang lugar kay safe puy-an para sa mga bata kay dagko ang pader. Naa sad mga magbantay (It's a good billeting venue for our athletes especially for our security)."

Gelmo also bared that Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte will be the keynote speaker in the opening rites.

She said that the Deped-Davao City has no worries about the security, adding: "We already have an advance party to check the situation in Mati."
