THE Discovery Perlas Pilipinas secured its third straight win after topping Turkmenistan, 67-41, to barge into the finals of the 3rd International Discovery Women's Basketball Invitational at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center.
April Siat sparked the Haydee Ong-mentored nationals with 21 points. She was ably supported by Angelie Gloriani, Denise Tiu, Melissa Jacob, Siat, Alicia Mendez, Lalaine Flormata, Micaela Bautista, Mary Joy Galicia, Vangie Soriano, Rica Francisco and Aileen Balmatero.
Philippines used speed in confusing the Turkmenistan defenders, scoring on open jumpers and lay-ups for a 24-14 advantage at the end of the first canto.
Turkmenistan was limited to only five points in the second quarter as the Philippines secured a 36-19 lead at the break. Filipina Siat led another surge to stretch the nationals' lead, 45-25 barely 5:01 left in the third frame.
Philippines kept its momentum as Turkmenistan succumbed to penalty trouble and costly turnovers to give the former a 51-32 lead heading into the pay-off period. They never looked back to secure the win.
Philippines was set to clash against Papua New Guinea-A team in the finals being played as of yesterday presstime.
