Tan: Becoming former

THIS week is a difficult but relieving one for me. So as not to keep you guessing, this is my last week as Station Manager of DXFE. I opted for early retirement so I can serve our church full- time. In leaving my position as a Station Manager, I now become a full-time Minister of Davao Chinese Baptist Church. I am also grateful to Far East Broadcasting Company President, Dan Andrew Cura, for allowing me to still host Moments of Grace aired very early in the morning, 5 a.m. to 6:30 a.m., Monday to Friday, over 1197 kHz DXFE. I am truly grateful.

So much for the information... let's get into the lessons of becoming "former." With bullet points, let me list lessons I have learned and am still learning:

* Becoming 'former' is a step to powerlessness . . . TAKE IT.

* Be grateful to your 'former' company . . . EXPRESS IT.

* Your now 'former' . . . ACT LIKE IT.

* Do not forget the people whom God used to mold you . . . text them THANKS.

* If possible, do not be too visible so as to give space to the new guy.

* Give advice ONLY when asked . . . CONSCIOUSLY.

* Avoid saying "in my time" . . . for your time is already up.

Love the word 'former', let go and discover the surprises God has prepared. In order to enjoy it, you need to be called 'former'.

Well, this is it . . . thanks for bearing with my emotional column today. Through the years I have learned and am still learning the truth about the saying which I framed many years ago... it says...

"Authority without wisdom is like a heavy AXE without an edge, fit to bruise than polish"

I gave this frame to Clover May Montojo, a faithful colleague and friend. I am glad she now hangs this frame in her office. To all of the radio community of 1197 DXFE, thanks a lot. Please continue your valuable support. It is amazing how DXFE existed for 43 years with no commercials. GOD IS FAITHFUL! Thanks, SUNSTAR for giving me space to write.
