Task force: 7 suspects in death of German

SEVEN suspects were involved in the Feb. 20 shooting of three foreigners inside a fast food chain in Barangay Tabunok, Talisay City, according to a new information uncovered by police.

The shooting resulted in the death of German national Heinrich Haffner, 31.

Supt. Rex Derilo, a member of Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) Haffner, said they are locating the four other suspects following the arrest of the first three last Sunday.

One of the four suspects was identified as Dexci Gomonte, also known as Tata.

He was one of two gunmen caught by the food chain’s security camera going after Haffner.

The other two were only known as "Macmac" and "Gilbert."

The fourth suspect is yet to be identified.

The suspects reportedly had an argument with Indian businessman Cheten Saparaiya, 32, and the girlfriend of French national Julian Maillard, 31.

Mistake

Haffner, who was on a two-month vacation in the country, was not part of the group of Saparaiya and Maillard.

He was mistakenly shot and killed.

Derilo, Regional Intelligence Division deputy chief of the Police Regional Office 7, said that the task force is trying to establish if the victims and suspects fought somewhere else before they arrived in McDonald's where the shooting happened.

Derilo did not reveal information about the suspects' current whereabouts so as not to jeopardize the follow-up operation.

He assured that police will follow the rules of engagement in case of an encounter.

The three suspects earlier arrested are Allan Velos, 40; Roger Cal, 40; and Ricci Edwin Ramirez, 21.

Also yesterday, Maillard was released after posting bail for a case of violation of Republic Act 9262 or the Violence against Women and Children Act.

Talisay City Police Station Chief Reycel Carmelo Dayon said that Maillard was scheduled to travel back to France last Wednesday.

The trip was canceled following Maillard's arrest last Tuesday.

The case was filed in Siquijor Province in 2012 by Maillard's ex-wife.

Meanwhile, a funeral procession in honor of Haffner has been planned for Saturday, 5 p.m.

The procession will start in the Capitol and end at the Fuente Osmeña Circle.

The purpose of the procession is to bring awareness to the issue of public safety and help the community, both foreign and local, get through the tragedy.
