Shellfish ban in Bataan lifted

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has lifted the shellfish ban in Bataan after laboratory tests showed that all kinds of shellfish in eight coastal towns in the province registered negative of red tide.

Bataan provincial agriculturist Imelda Inieto said Wednesday that even acetes or alamang that was included in the shellfish ban are now red tide-free.

BFAR imposed the prohibition on the gathering, transporting and eating of shellfish in Bataan last November 2013 that it lifted on August 2014.

The agency declared again the presence of the deadly red tide after two months on October 2014.

Affected were fishermen from the towns of Orani, Samal, Abucay, Pilar, Orion, Limay and Mariveles and the City of Balanga. (Ric Sapnu)
