Radisson Blu sees great year ahead

THIS year will be a “double banner year” for Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu after it posted high growth in occupancy and profits in 2014, a top hotel executive said.

Nishan Silva, the general manager of the 400-room hotel, said 2014 was a banner year with an occupancy of 75 percent and a total revenue higher than its target.

“We were able to achieve a 35 percent growth in profits. We surpassed every target we forecast for 2014,” said Silva. Radisson Blu also won 13 awards last year, of which three are international awards.

Silva attributed the hotel’s impressive growth to a number of innovations they introduced last year such as improvements in food and beverage, kid’s membership, and the launching of the experienced meetings, among others.

Travel spending for local and foreign tourists also revived last year after the slowdown in the last quarter of 2013 due to the twin calamities that hit Cebu.

Despite fresh injections in the supply of hotel rooms in Cebu, Silva said they remain optimistic and confident to achieve a “double banner year” for 2015 with the number of Mice events to happen this year in Cebu led by the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Ministerial meetings; and the new services they will offer in the food and beverage segment.

The five-year old hotel will be launching two new outlets — Dilmah t-Bar, which is the first in the Philippines; and a Chocolate Studio and Dessert, whose design and concept is on the final stage already.

The hotel is also finalizing its month-long five-year anniversary celebration beginning Oct. 10. Silva said they will mount a series of activities that will attract more guests to stay in their hotel.

Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu targets to end 2015 with at least 80 percent growth.

The hotel is owned by SM Hotels and Conventions Corp., and is managed by the Carlzon Rezidor Group.

The hotel management firm targets to operate 200 hotels in Asia Pacific by 2020. At present the firm operates two hotel brands in the Philippines —Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu and Park Inn by Radisson in Davao. Opening soon this year is another Park Inn hotel in Clark, Pampanga.

“By 2020, we hope to have five hotels under the Carlzon Rezidor brand in the Philippines,” said Silva.
