19th Sinigayan Festival kicks off today

SAGAY City’s 19thSinigayan Festival kicks off today with an opening parade and program, opening of festival villages and unveiling of mural to be led by Mayor Alfredo Marañon III and Vice Mayor Narciso Javelosa Jr. and city officials.

Sinigayan Foundation president Primitivo Rivera Jr. will officially open the festival, with the theme, “Excellence in Education: A Continuing Challenge.”

The mayor’s father, Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. will be the guest of honor.

Four festival villages – Dagway-Sagay Arts and Culture village, Bugay Sagay Agro Aqua Village, Taliambong Food and Entertainment Village and Sinigayan Live Animals and Poultry exhibit will also be opened today, and will run until the fiesta highlights on March 19. Each village will have its own activities and programs.

Nine candidates are vying for the title, Sinigayan Queen 2015, during the pageant that will be held tonight. It will be co-presented by Sagay “Sigay” Jaycees.

The highlight on March 17 will the fundraising concert of the St. Joseph Parish, featuring Boholono priests dubbed as JEDUTHUN.

On the 18th will be the Dep-Ed Day filled with activities highlighting the gains in education and the inauguration and blessing of school buildings. In the evening, there will be DepEd Night.

Sinigay sa Sagay Mardigras King and Queen 2015 will also be presented with body-painting models from Dagway-Sagay Arts and Culture Village.

On the 19th will be the procession of St. Joseph image around the city and concelebrated Mass at St. Joseph Parish with San Carlos Bishop

Also on March 19, the Sinigay sa Sagay Mardigras will start at 2 p.m. at the designated areas and with the final performance at the city public plaza.

At 8 pm will be the People’s Night and Awarding program with celebrities to grace the occasion. Ratsada sa Kalsada, a two-night street party will be on March 18 and 19.

Meanwhile, a Mass and wreath-laying were offered last Friday to commemorate the 7th death anniversary of Sagay’s beloved son, the late governor Joseph Marañon.

Also, there were pre-festival activities including the successful opening of Taliambong Food and Entertainment Village with activities such as videoke singing contest dubbed as Hit or Pal-hit, The Voice Idol of Sagay for Kids Season I, Gaya Gaya Push Mo yan, Pop-Dance Contest, Literary Contests among others.

St. Joseph Parish led by Fr. Erwin Magnanao also started its religious activities such as Novena, Mass Wedding, Mass Baptism and Confirmation.

Sports activities also comprised the pre-festival activities such as Adlaw sang mga Kabataan (A Traditional Filipino Games) with Museo sang Bata sa Negros Foundation, Sinigayan Invitational Motocross, Fun Ride and Mountain Bike Circuit Race, Sinigayan Lawn Tennis Competition, Sinigayan Shootfest, Amateur Boxing Tournament, Tamiya Mini-4WD and Mayor Alfredo Marañon III A-Side Football Festival 2015.
