Limlingan: Appreciating Angeles City

ALBEIT belatedly, I am extending my warm congratulations to Angeles City Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan for being chosen as one of the recipients of the 2015 Most Outstanding Mayors Award (MOMA) by Superbrands Marketing International (SMI).

SMI is an international organization that confers awards to strongest brands in the country in 88 countries worldwide. The MOMA meanwhile is their way of recognizing the accomplishments of local chief executives for their efforts in nation building.

The recent award of the SMI to Mayor Pamintuan is the third since the year 2012 and it seems that the latter has maintained his stance of working hard in fulfilling his mandate as the chief steward of Angeles City.

He undoubtedly deserves the award after having received a number of them such as the World’s Best Mayor (rank 8) and a lot more. Also, the city has been awarded numerous citations and recognitions under his tutelage, the recent of which is the “Most Child-Friendly LGU” by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The city has also been a recipient of the Seal of Good Financial Housekeeping (GFH) from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), a remarkable award that manifests the local officials’ honesty and transparency in being entrusted with the public coffers.

Through the years, Mayor Pamintuan or Mayor EdPam to many, has raked-in various commendations from private and government organizations as fitting tributes to his being hardworking and dedicated service to the people of Angeles City. These awards would not be given to him if not for his excellent performance in delivering the services of the city to Angeleños.

Recently, he spoke before other local chief executives, members and guests of the League of Cities of the Philippines during the Interactive Conference on Public Place and the New Urban Agenda. He pointed out “political will” as the key to his implementation of various programs and projects that now redound to the benefit and welfare of his constituents.

He gave examples of his projects such as the establishment and beautification of public spaces, parks and plazas that act now as the show window of the Angeles City not only for the residents but for visitors of the city as well.

Today, we can see the transformation of Angeles City in terms of beautification, landscape and aesthetics, which forms part of the physical development of the city.

Mayor Pamintuan has really gone far in terms of public service. He has earned various praises and accolades not due to nothing but because of his dedication and commitment to the trust and confidence of the people who have given him the mandate to serve.

The face of Angeles City is far different from the previous years when it was not so organized, dark and a little filthy. The city then was like a rich man who looks sick and is untidy. Chaos rules the streets where public utility vehicles chase each other for passengers but eventually results in traffic congestion.

With what Mayor Pamintuan has done and what he is doing for the furtherance of development in the city, Angeleños should feel lucky for they have a public servant who works for them and works very well.

If various entities appreciate what he has done for the city, he deserves more of the appreciation from the people who benefit from further growth and development Angeles City is experiencing.
