Cordova mulls reward for tipsters v. cyber operators

THE Cordova Municipal Government announced its plan to give P20,000 cash or more to any person who can provide information about any town resident that offers cyber pornography.

Mayor Mary Therese Sitoy-Cho said the plan, which will be made an ordinance, will be discussed by the Municipal Council.

If this plan will be realized, this will be the second Cordova ordinance in the campaign against cyber pornography.

The first ordinance requires money transfer firms to submit a report and to coordinate with the municipal officials if they notice unusual transactions.

The mayor said that the plan will help the town to easily identify those who are into the illegal operations.

Cho and the rest of the board of directors of the Philippine Red Cross Lapu-Lapu-Cordova Chapter was in Lapu-Lapu City Hall yesterday for a courtesy call on Mayor Paz Radaza.

Last Tuesday morning, Meliza Ogaob, a 38-year-old mother, was arrested for an alleged cybersex activity.

Authorities rescued three females, aged 17 and 19, and four boys, aged 10, 6 and 5.

Cho said the mother, who is not from Cordova, used her child for the illegal activity.

She said only the suspect’s child was taken into custody by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, while the six other rescued minors were sent home after it was found out that they were not used in the operations.

Cho said the measures they are undertaking will serve as a warning to anyone, including foreigners, that the municipal government is serious about its campaign against cyber pornography. (FMG)
