Sangil: All heads of states in Clark airport

THERE are so many things in life that are important. Family gatherings. Memories. The first cry of a newly born baby, your apo. Discussions. Story telling during lunchtime. And many more.

Many people all over the world always look forward on the coming of Christmas. As a matter of fact, us in the Philippines the season starts as early as September. That's the time we start hearing Christmas songs from the airlanes.

This coming celebration of Christmas will be so extremely sad to many people, particularly to the many victims of disasters and the so many tragic events that happened months before the coming of the yuletide season, and the families and friends of victims of the so-called extrajudicial killings (EJK). Thousands lost their homes, properties and most of all their love ones in Marawi.

How could one be happy when everything in one's self was lost overnight. Properties maybe recovered in time. But what about a family member whom you will never see?

Peace is so elusive in many parts of the world now. Defense ministers of many countries are currently in Clark Freeport now assessing situations and cracking their heads how to restore order in the world wherein which some people (fundamentalists) are so obsessed with war.

There are more than 9,000 policemen positioned in many strategic areas in and around Clark Freeport as the Asean defense ministers meeting is on-going. These officials and their aides are billeted at those newly constructed villas done by a company owned by a certain Mr. Cuerpo a close friend of a former Clark Development Corporation. Security is tight in the area where they are housed.

Congratulations are in order for CDC President Noel Manankil and his staff for the preparations they laid out for the Asean summit. Special mention to Vice President Alveen Tabag. He was Manankil's workhorse.

Clark International Airport Corporation Alex Caugiran is on his toes. I don't think he can get enough sleep now that all flights carrying heads of states joining the summit including United States President Donald Trump will make their landing here. None at NAIA, based in order of President Duterte. Hope I can get a glimpse of the Air Force One.

Sometimes you want to scratch your head, and refuse to believe if we are really a third world country, as labeled by western economists. Go to the malls. Lines are long going to the cashiers' booth. Go to the restaurants. Go to the casinos. Go to the cockpits. Full of people.

You will see people shopping and emptying the shelves. You will see people in the casinos betting fortunes as if money will go out of fashion tomorrow.
