Abtanan sa Kaluoy pilots late birth registration

THE Abtanan sa Kaluoy (Oasis of Mercy), through the Dilaab Foundation Inc. and the Ugnayan ng Barangay at Simbahan (Ubas), piloted a program that would address the need for the late registration of live birth of the poorest of the poor and the children of drug surrenderers in Barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City.

An estimated 7.2 million Filipinos do not have birth certificates, which has, to a great extent, prevented them from improving their lives and position in society.

The program served over 120 individuals from some 80 families from the area, and brought together in a concerted effort, agencies and organizations involved in the late registration of live birth.

Aside from the Dilaab Foundation and Ubas, the other parties involved are the Mandaue City, Barangay Subangdaku, Office of Civil Registrar, Integrated Bar of the Philippines, and Philippine Statistics Authority.

The program will be piloted also in Barangay Tisa in Cebu City before being integrated as one of the core programs of Abtanan sa Kaluoy. (PR)
