Actor Cogie Domingo arrested in anti-drug operation

MANILA (Updated) -- Actor Cogie Domingo and two others were arrested in an anti-illegal drug operation in Parañaque City on Friday, October 27, said the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

Domingo, 32, and drug suspects Almera Bautista and Francis Lim were arrested during a buy-bust operation conducted by operatives of PDEA-Calabarzon in Paranaque City.

Derrick Carreon, PDEA spokesperson, they were confident that they can file an "airtight" against the three suspects.

Careen said a box containing shabu paraphernalia were seized from the Domingo vehicle.

Domingo, however, claimed he was framed by the PDEA agents and denied that he was selling, using and buying illegal drugs.

"No, I'm not using drugs," said Domingo during a press conference in Calamba, Laguna.

Domingo claimed he and his companion was having dinner in Parañaque City early Friday morning when PDEA operatives showed up and arrested him.

"I believe na na-set-up lang ako," he said.

Domingo admitted trying illegal drugs in the past but said he is clean already. "Yes, I've tried it before. But it was a long time ago and I'm not using drugs now," he said.

Human rights lawyer Rod Domingo, the actor's father, said his son underwent drug testing last year.

"Alam ko na hindi nagdo-droga, hindi nagbe-benta. He's not in any way related to drugs. Voluntarily, a few years ago, nag drug test. Negative naman," the elder Domingo said.

The actor is currently detained at Camp Vicente Lim in Calamba, Laguna.

Domingo, before leaving show business, appeared in several television programs like "Click," "P.S. I love You," "Valiente," and "Buena Familia" among others.

He also starred in Joel Lamangan's critically-acclaimed movie "Deathrow". (SunStar Philippines)
