Everyday Persian

THIS kebab restaurant has been around for some time now and has a strong following among all ages.

Leah and I arrived at 7 p.m. when there was just two other tables occupied. One by three Caucasians, and another by a woman.

But soon after, the place filled up quickly: a group of students still in their uniforms, the woman’s two sons, a big group behind us. All tables were taken.

That’s Shatter Persian Kebab at the Davao Automobile Center along F. Torres Street, otherwise referred to as “tabing Davcon”. (That area that has Yoh Froz, Red House Taiwan Shabu-shabu, Pawsome Café, etc.)

As the name implies, it serves kebab.

As appetizer, we got the roasted beet hummus served with triangles of pita, which has an interesting take on the hummus. I like it.

I got the Shish Kofte kebab, while Leah got the Chicken Kofta kebab. What I like is that their garlic sauce tasted like garlic sauce and not sweetened mayonnaise as many tend to have. That's scored a big one for me.

Then the serving size -- an order would get you two pieces served with vegetables and two pita bread. For around P150-up, you get a very filling meal. No wonder the tables were all taken.

They also have the ultimate platter that is even more budget-friendly, which has a sampler of five kebabs and veggies. Had we had more tummy space, I would have wanted to try the Falafel Cheeseballs. Maybe next time.

If you haven’t tried Shatter, yet, it’s worth a try. Just be there earlier or later than the regular mealtime because the place does fill up fast at around 7:30 p.m.
