Students perform community theater, distribute story books

Believing that learning also occurs outside the classroom, the AB English students of the University of Cebu–College of Liberal Arts manifested their scholastic and social duties in a community outreach and literacy program.

Spearheaded by their professor Gianne Rensen V. Antonio, literature students showcased their thespian, storytelling and pedagogic skills for the children of Lanipao and Napo in Sapangdaku, Cebu City.

Local folktales, such as Haring Gangis ug Haring Leon, Maria Cacao and the Legend of the Chocolate Hills, told through a chamber theater both entertained and educated the curious kids.

They also turned over several copies of the storybooks they designed, of which the contents they either wrote or translated in class.

Daycare teacher Maria Teresa Moroscallo, representing the parents, thanked the UC English majors and wished for such activities to be done more often in their neighborhood.
