A FORMER bodyguard of a councilor in Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental was shot to death by three unidentified men at Barangay Montilla Sunday morning, October 29.
The fatality was identified as Rudy Campaner.
Senior Inspector Alan Reloj, town police chief, said Campaner and his wife were on their way home from a store around 10 a.m. when the assailants fired at them.
Campaner succumbed to seven gunshot wounds while his wife was unharmed.
Reloj said they were not able to recover bullets from the scene but the assailants were believed to have used high-powered firearms.
The police chief said the couple arrived from Cebu City, where Campaner was working as a construction worker, on the day they were ambushed.
Reloj said Campaner had worked as a bodyguard of a councilor in the 2013 elections. He then moved to Cebu City to look for another job.
Campaner has not received threats even before he left the town, based on his family’s statement, he added.
Reloj said they cannot establish the motive as of now.
In Murcia town, a man died while his friend was seriously injured after they were shot by two unidentified men on a motorcycle at Barangay Salvacion early Sunday morning.
Senior Inspector Ronald Santillan, town police chief, identified the fatality as Saldy Montes, 29.
Wounded was Ryan Tumpong, 21.
Santillan said the two victims were on their way home around 1:10 a.m. after visiting the wake of Montes’s grandmother in Barangay Sta. Cruz when the gunmen fired at them.
Tumpong, who was driving, was able to jump from the motorcycle while Montes succumbed to head injuries.
Tumpong, however, was also hit and was rushed to a hospital. He is under observation.
Santillan said the assailants shot Montes at close range even if the victim was already lying on the ground.
Police recovered eight bullets of .9mm caliber, a bullet and a slug of .45 caliber pistol.
Santillan said they are eyeing grudge as the motive after learning that Montes was involved in a shooting incident in 2015 and Tumpong was also involved in the same crime last September 16.
