THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) raised alert since Saturday, October 28, as the influx of passengers is expected for the observance of the All Saints’ Day on November 1.
Passengers were advised to book their tickets early to avoid inconvenience.
Petty Officer 3 Gerald Jade, officer-in-charge of PCG-Bredco port in Bacolod City, said more than 100 personnel are overseeing the security of the ports in Negros Occidental.
Jade said the number of passengers traveling from the Bredco port has increased over the weekend, based on the data they obtained as of Sunday morning, October 29.
An estimated 7,500 passengers passed through the port during the weekend and the number of vehicles also increased, based on his observation.
More passengers are expected on October 31, when most of the private offices would declare a “half-day” for their employees, Jade added.
He assured the public they are conducting routine checkup of all vessels before departure to avoid overloading of passengers or cargo, and to ensure that the ships are seaworthy.
Security protocols are also being strictly enforced with K-9 units roaming around the terminal areas, he added.
