NOLITC bags nat’l award from Tesda

THE Negros Occidental Language and Information Technology Center (NOLITC) bagged this year’s two-star rating award from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) for its initiative on recognizing the exemplary performance of schools with quality training programs.

The provincial government-run center is the first and only technical-vocational institution (TVI) in Negros Occidental given the said national recognition for its Contact Center Services (CCS) course.

Vocational School Administrator Ma. Cristina Orbecido, who received the award during the 2nd National Quality Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Forum and 1st Tesda Star Rating Awards held at Crowne Plaza Manila Galeria Hotel in Quezon City on Friday, said NOLITC is also the only TVI in the country with two-star rating for the said course.

Orbecido said the center bagged the award after surpassing a series of validations, site visits, technical audits, and evaluation by the regional and national board of judges.

“The two-star level connotes that NOLITC met the standards substantially above the threshold of the competency-based program delivery and performance measures set by Tesda's Unified TVET program registration and accreditation system,” Orbecido added.

The criteria for the award include program governance and management, curriculum and program delivery, support services, and program performance measures.

The two-star rating award is valid for two years. It will give priority to NOLITC in the allocation of Tesda’s scholarship grants.

The course will also be exempted from technical audit for two years.

CCS course is a 144-hour training program consisting of core competencies that a person must have to communicate effectively in English for customer service, perform customer service delivery processes, and demonstrate ability to effectively engage customers.

The star rating award is Tesda’s means of recognizing the accomplishments and improvements that a TVI has instituted beyond the minimum requirements set in the program registration and accreditation system.

It also aims to underscore innovations which have resulted to laudable program performance measures and determine the level of quality of TVET provision of TVIs in the country.

Orbecido said that with the recent recognition, NOLITC is now ahead of the pack in terms of providing quality training.

“It was a tedious program but we earned another ace and we will continue to improve the delivery of our training programs for the people of Negros Occidental,” she added.
