Retired cop’s ‘killer’ charged

THE Office of the Cebu City Prosecutor has indicted a 29-year-old man who allegedly shot dead a retired policeman in Barangay Luz, Cebu City last May 23, 2017.

Prosecutor Liceria Lofranco-Rabillas found evidence to charge Jabie Panta with murder before the Regional Trial Court. Murder is a non-bailable offense.

Pedrito Cabornay, 60, a retired policeman, was hit in his chin with the bullet exiting through the back of his head after Panta shot him inside a covered court in Sitio Abellana.

“Evident premeditation and treachery are present in this case as respondent waited for the victim and suddenly shot the latter,” said Rabillas in her resolution.

Panta, who hails from Barangay Lahug, failed to submit his counter-affidavit, prompting government prosecutors to resolve the complaint based on the evidence presented by the complainant.

The accused remains at large. (GMD)
