Cebu’s elite off to Bohol

CEBU’S elite triathletes will be heading to Bohol to vie for top honors in the 2017 Bellevue Resort 5i50 Triathlon in Panglao Island on Nov. 5.

The spotlight will be on Cebu’s Jorry Ycong as he tries to capture another win in Bohol after reigning in last year’s men’s Filipino Elite class.

Ycong, a native of Negros Occidental, will also debut for the Cebu-based commercial team Rider Omega Triathlon. Ycong and teammates from Repro Optima were signed by Rider Omega this month.

Joining the Asian Elite fray from Cebu are Paul Jumamil and Banjo Norte of Rider Omega Tri Team, John Philip Dueñas of Motor Ace Kawasaki Racing Team, and Xterra pro Joseph Miller of Ford Forza.

Cebu’s triathletes will be facing the likes of many-time Ironman 70.3 Philippines champion August Benedicto of Alaska Tri-Aspire, Jonard Saim of Active Health Elite Team, hometown bet Emmanuel Commendador of Paseo de Loon and Thailand’s Sam Burns of Tri Nirvana.

The race will cover 1.5-km. swim, 40K bike and 10K run.

On the other hand, national junior team members for triathlon Kim Andrew Remolino and Karen Manayon both from Talisay City, Cebu will vie for titles in the sprint race, which covers 750-meter swim, 20K bike and 5K run.

Meanwhile, the men’s pro division will have Aussies Sam Betten, Timothy James Reed, Alexander Polizzi and Gabriel Manner from Rwanda.

The women’s pro will feature Laurel Wassner of United States and Aussies Dimity Lee Duke and Kerry Morris. (RSC)
