EVER since we started our annual football tournament, one of the things that makes the SunStar Football Cup different from the rest is the set of giveaways we raffle off to the players and coaches. We’ve given away gift certificates, Samsung phones, balls, football items, umbrellas, and a lot of other goodies.
Last year, we still had a raffle but added an online component as some of the items were given away through the SunStar Football Cup FB page. Also last year, we decided not to raffle off the balls--some new, some slightly used--and just gave them away. Kicking or throwing them off to a gathered crowd.
Why give them away? It will just rot for a year in the office and would be damaged, better that it gets used by footballers. Too bad, though, that one person with itchy hands “joined” the contest and walked away with a player’s cellphone as they were busy fighting for the ball.
This year, there will still be some raffles but most of the giveways will be given via the Facebook page. You want that signed Phil and James Younghusband match jerseys? Better wait for the instructions on the page. These aren’t replica jerseys, mind you, but match jerseys given by the Davao Aguilas thanks to the ever amiable Charmaine Cruz, who handles PR for the Aguilas.
The mechanics are very simple. A picture of the item will be posted on the page, and those who want to win need to post a comment—any comment would do---and from them, a winner will be chosen randomly.
That takes luck. But that’s not the only contest; there are two others that will require skills and all involve a camera. Thanks to MotorAce Philippines, we now have photo contests for DSLR users, with total prizes of P22,000. The top three will get P7,000, P5,000 and P3,000, while there will be seven consolation prizes of P1,000 each.
For the camphone users, just post a picture of your favorite moments in the SunStar Cup, tag the page and use the hashtag, and we will pick the best photo. Not the one with the most number of likes or comments, but the best. We’ll let our chief photographer pick it. The prize? Two round-trip tickets to any domestic destination courtesy of Air Asia.
