Leylam FC eyes semis in Vietnam

LEYLAM FC will try its luck once again in the annual Saigon 7s this weekend in Saigon, Vietnam.

It’ll be Leylam FC’s third appearance in the Saigon 7s, which is one of the grandest seven-a-side football tournaments in Southeast Asia.

Leylam FC finished as runner-up in the Plate division in 2015 and ended up in seventh place last year after getting knocked out in the quarterfinals. Leylam FC is eyeing a better finish this year.

“So far, we lacked preparation because of the rain and we also lacked matches,” Leylam FC head coach Oliver Colina told SunStar Cebu. “Our target, however, is to make it to the semifinals.”

This year’s squad is composed of a mix of Inter-Company and Men’s Open players form its Aboitiz Football Cup teams.

“Before, we only had company players. Now we have some of our men’s open players that we will expose in an international tournament so that when they play here in our domestic tournament, their confidence will be higher,” said Colina.

The squad is composed of Ian Combate, Raffy Llorente, Ranulfo Colina, Harris Segovia, Rene Sanchez, Louise Garciano, Rogelio Castillon, Michael Pacite, Baris Tasci, Evren Tasci, Gem Tasci, and Ugur Tasci.

The team will leave for Vietnam today. (EKA)
