Davao City pushes more airlinks to other Asian cities

THE Davao City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) continues to push for more direct flights from Davao to other Asian neighbors.

On the sidelines of the opening of Kadayawan Village last Monday, October 30, at Magsaysay Park, CTOO head Generose Tecson said they would also want to be able to have a direct flight from Davao to Japan and vice versa after they had visited the country for a tourism and investment roadshow last October 17 to 22.

Tecson added they are now into promoting Davao City in terms of tourism in East Asian countries as these are more geographically accessible than other countries and are more possible to have direct flights in the future.

“We believe we should sell first to nations near to us like Singapore – we should be a hard-sell – Korea, Japan, Hong Kong because it would be easier for them to come here,” she said.

As AirAsia will have their first Davao-Kuala Lumpur direct flight on December, Tecson said it is all the more needed that Davao be promoted to Kuala Lumpur.

As there is yet to be a new direct flight launched after Davao-Kuala Lumpur, she said they are still continuing to court foreign and local airlines to finally launch other direct flights from Davao City and vice versa. (With PR)
