Lawmaker to Roque: 'You are spokesperson to President not to yourself'

KABAYAN Representative Ron Salo on Thursday reminded incoming Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque that he will be the spokesperson to the President Rodrigo Duterte and not to himself.

"Mr. Roque should be reminded that he is a Spokesperson for the President and not of himself. He should be concerned with matters involving the presidency and the interest of the country, and not of his personal glorification," said Salo.

Roque on Wednesday said he wants the House ethics committee to expedite the complaints he filed against his party mate, Salo, saying the Kabayan party's second nominee was "unfit to stay in Congress."

The six ethics complaints filed by Roque, who is set to step down as Kabayan party-list representative, aims to remove Salo from Congress for "gross and shameless ignorance and blatant competence" for using government resources to commit technical malversation.

Salo said Roque's ethics complaint is as "shallow as a kiddie pool".

"Any person would understand that the basis of his complaint is as shallow as a kiddie pool, yet only for personal media mileage, he would maximize its utility. I just wonder what is its value to the presidency and to the country," he added.

Salo said the expulsion case Roque filed against him in the House of Representatives is based on his alleged use of government resources in printing the disbarment case he filed against the incoming Presidential Spokesperson in the Supreme Court.

Roque also slapped him with indirect contempt charges and his chief of staff for allegedly violating the confidentiality clause in disbarment procedure.

Kabayan party-list had earlier tried but failed to expel Roque from Congress for "dishonorable behavior" after he had asked "lewd" questions to Ronnie Dayan, the former boyfriend of Senator Leila de Lima, during a congressional inquiry.

Roque is expected to officially take on the role of Presidential Spokesperson starting November 6. (SunStar Philippines)
