Zamboanga mayor calls for public vigilance against threats

MAYOR Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar has called for renewed vigilance, support and cooperation on all security measures implemented by police and military authorities in light of the recent terror threats in other parts of the country.

Salazar said the 100 percent support and cooperation of the residents is very urgent as the police and military authorities cannot do things alone.

She said there is always a threat to security whereby even the most powerful countries in the world are not spared citing such as the “Halloween attack in New York, United States of America.

She said the people should immediately report to authorities the presence of any suspicious groups or individuals or activities in their area as well as the presence of suspicious items and abandoned vehicles.

Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO), meanwhile, is currently conducting counter measures to ensure safety of the community.

This, as the prevailing peace and order situation in the city remains relatively peaceful despite the continuous threats coming from the lawless groups like Abu Sayyaf Group and other criminal groups.

ZCPO Spokesperson Shellah Mae Chang said that personnel will be assigned at the different junctions, intersections, central business district and terminals to ensure the protection of the public. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
