Sungduan: Deal

PINOY writers all over the world can now start sending their entries for the DE Francia Awards for Literature (DEAL), a worldwide writing contest encouraging the creation of “Pinoy-based” short stories in the country and abroad.

Launched by the team headed by two time Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards awardee in literary and former Baguio professor now based in Santa Maria, California, USA, Dr. Clarito Garcia De Francia, the contest aims to produce, inspire and hone students, amateurs and professionals in the short story writing field.

Furthermore, its goal is to impart to the global community about the Filipino talents, skills, experiences, failures, challenges, as well as excellence, thinking, spirit, and wit following the theme of Filipino life success or victory where the readers could absorb an inspiration or moral lesson.

The contest is open to all Filipinos, born or naturalized with Filipino bloodline, students, amateur and professional writers, wherever they are, and has not won first prize in English short story writing. Only one entry is allowed per participant.

Submission of entries and questions regarding the contest may be sent through the email address claritodefrancia@yahoo.com and franklin_macugay@yahoo.com.

The first DEAL Awards winners in April include Philippine Information Agency-Abra Provincial Manager Maria Teresa Benas with her short story entitled “The Chase” which won 3rd place; Crispin Dannug Jr.’s “Soon”, 4th prize; and Linda Bulong’s “Cycle” 5th place.

There are many talented Filipino writers with beautiful stories to tell. Some need motivation for them to pursue their passion and continue their pursuit for a writing career. It’s time to know them well and their wonderful literary works through the DEAL Awards.
