Burglars strike homes as residents visit dead kin

THE observance of All Saints and All Souls Day was generally peaceful, though non-holiday related crimes have been reported, according to the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo), Thursday, November 2.

Cocpo spokesperson Chief Inspector Mardy Hortillosa II said no untoward incidents have been recorded in cemeteries and terminals as about 150,000 people have visited and paid respect to their departed loved ones in both public and private cemeteries in the city.

"Very peaceful kaayo ang atong assessment kay wala may incident nahitabo naay katong bata nga naligyas ug nasamdan sa city public cemetery pero giatiman dayon," Hortillosa said.

Authorities, however, have noted few burglary incidents, one in a gated subdivision in barangay Lumbia in broad day light and another in a pad in Barangay Nazareth nearly midnight.

Hortillosa said unidentified suspects gained entrance by forcefully bending a window grill and carted away a television and assorted watches worth about P150,000 from a house inside Montana Vista in Gran Europa Subdivision around 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 1.

The police are still investigating how the suspects sneaked in and escaped from the security guards.

"Nakasulod ang mga suspects kay ilang gipilo ang grills sa bintana basin naa silay gigamit nga device para mapilo ang grills. Giimbestighan pa ngano nga nakasulod nga well-fence man ang subdivision unya naay security guards," Hortillosa said.

In barangay Nazareth, unidentified suspects robbed a pad and took away a television and shoes worth P30,000 around 11:00 p.m., Wednesday.

Hortillosa said the homeowners may be at the cemetery when the two incidents took place.

A motorist, meanwhile, was arrested after being caught carrying an improvised handgun at a checkpoint in Tablon highway.

The motorcycle has no plate number and the suspect, Allan Olinan, resident of Camp Evangelista in Patag, failed to present papers of registration.

Seized also from his possession was a "halloween" mask.

"Giimbestighan pa ang suspect kung naa ba siyay illegal involvements," Hortillosa said.

Authorities also arrested three wanted personalities for different crimes through the implementation of arrest warrants.
