Cop stabbed after responding to riot

A POLICE officer, who was merely responding to a riot, sustained an injury after he was stabbed by a person involved in the melee on Wednesday evening, November 1, in Taal, Bangkal, Davao City.

Davao City Police Office (DCPO) spokesperson Police Senior Inspector Ma. Teresita Gaspan said that around 9:10 p.m., Wednesday, a concerned citizen alerted Talomo Police Station on the ongoing riot and sought for police assistance.

The police station immediately dispatched Mobile 90 manned by two police officers who were in Bangkal.

Gaspan said, upon arrival at the area, groups were clashing and were having a riot in the area, wherein responding policemen intervened and attempted to stop the riot.

However, instead of heeding the warning, the rioters turned their attention and attacked the policemen.

One of the suspects stabbed Police Officer (PO1) Marlou Adrian Nudalo twice but he was able to parry and considering his life was in danger, he was forced to shoot the suspect identified as Zeric Nucena to stop the attack for self-defense.

They were able to recover a knife measuring more or less 12 inches in the suspect's possession and control while they also arrested two other suspects who were withheld by the responding back-up of mobile 90.

They likewise recovered a steel pipe from Renante Benetiz, one other knife with color green handle from Jobert Lumantas. They were all rushed to Southern Philippines Medical Center for medical treatment after they were jointly mauled by the people in the area.

Last month, two members of a gang involved in a riot were also killed by the responding policeman in Magsaysay Street, Calinan District, Davao City, after the duo allegedly tried to gang up on the cop.
