La Trinidad wins nationwide coop search

THE Municipality of La Trinidad bagged first place in the nationwide search for best performing Local Government Unit Cooperative Development Office.

La Trinidad topped the different criteria with its duly appointed cooperative development officer (CDO) and cooperative development programs during the recent Gawad ng Parangal 2017 under the Office of the President given by the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) which conducts annual search for most outstanding cooperatives and best performing cooperative development partners.

During the awarding held at the Shangri-La Hotel October 29, cooperatives, leaders, cooperative development offices and other stakeholders convened and awarded for their exemplifying best practices and outstanding performance and contributions to cooperative development.

La Trinidad CDO Orly Pacya said with the presence of tripartite partnership in cooperatives, the local government unit, and the presence of cooperative council were some of the contributing factors for them to win the said award.

Prior to winning the national crown, La Trinidad claimed the regional best performing cooperative office and was qualified as one of the nominees and won in the national level for the municipality level.

With a positive response from stakeholders, Pacya added they hope to sustain the award as well as promulgating activities for cooperatives in the municipality.

"There are more activities and services which have improved this year, the challenge remains for us sustain our programs. For last year, there were many training conducted by the municipality regardless of our limited budget. Aside from the trainings, there were mentoring, and consulting where cooperatives can attend anytime to appropriate offices,” Pacya said.

Pacya added cooperatives are one sector which contributes to the improvement of the community. "They are directly helping members, while members contributes high dividend and share capital aside from employment which also continues to generate,” added Pacya.

Mayor Romeo Salda also remain firm in providing support to the needs for cooperative development office.

Janet Abalos of the CDA-Cordillera reported there are 68 cooperatives in the municipality which have submitted documents from small, micro, and large categories.

Top performing cooperatives in terms of assets accumulation for large cooperatives comprised of Benguet Sate University Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MPC), the La Trinidad Vegetable Post MPC and the Benguet Government Employees MPC.
