No drugs in Sagada concert

A WEEKEND of clean fun was held at the quiet town of Sagada.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency reported no busts ensued during the "A Concert in the Clouds" held in the top tourism destination of Mountain Province.

PDEA information officer lawyer Joseph Calulut said the K9 unit was assigned to the concert venue as well as agents from the agency to assure no illegal substances were induced.

Bomb fears and the proliferation of drugs were quelled with the presence of sniffing dogs stationed on site to thwart any untoward incidents.

Police checkpoints were set up in all entrance and exit points of the town to ensure order and safe passage of the visitors which filled the town over the weekend.

Sagada Tourism officer Robert Pangod said over 3,000 attended the concert which were accommodated in the local inns and lodging homes.

Pangod added the concert handling was successful in terms of peace and order, solid waste management, community support as well as business generation for locals.

Ed Formoso conceptualized and carried out the event “A Concert in the Clouds: Sagada Art, Music and Peace fair 2017” which saw the performances of bands Monologue, Ash, Blue Jean Junkies, Reggae Mistress, Behind Bears; artists Acel and Abby Assistio, Lolita Carbon, Raymound Lauchengco, Ely Buendia, Noel Cabangon, Joey Ayala, Freddie Aguilar and Gary Valenciano.

Local officials and elders earlier backed the controversial town concert which created a stir among locals who had clashing opinions with a group of concerned citizens starting a petition at change.org to stop the concert.

The event was also backed by the office of the Department of Tourism cordillera with regional director Marie Venus Tan who attended the two day event.
