THE Provincial Government of Negros Occidental will hold a program Friday morning to honor the soldiers from the province who fought the Islamic State-linked terrorists in Marawi City, at the Provincial Capitol grounds in Bacolod City.

More than 80 soldiers have already returned to the province after fighting the terrorists for almost five months to liberate Marawi.

However, five Negrense soldiers were also killed in action. They were Corporal Arnel Arquio, Staff Sergeant Joseph Villanueva, Private First Class (PFC) Ramonito Occena Jr., PFC Arjelito Baroa, and PFC Nilbert Dedales.

Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator Ma. Lina Sanogal said the fallen soldiers will be honored during the program, which will also be attended by their families.

She added that the province will also extend assistance to the families of the soldiers who killed in action.

Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. and Major General Jon Aying, commander of the Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division, will lead the ceremony this morning which will start at 9 a.m.

First Lieutenant Richard Paul Gobway, commander of the 33rd Division Reconnaissance Company, will report their accomplishment during their stay in Mindanao.

After the program, there will be boodle fight at the Negros Occidental Multi-Purpose Activity Center.

The Negrenses were told to stay vigilant even if the war in Marawi City is over.

The Army in the Visayas is developing a peace and security resiliency infrastructure among the communities to stop terror threats.

They initiated dialogues with the grassroots, including the Muslim communities.
