Man dead in Talisay City road accident

A 33-YEAR-OLD man was killed after his motorcycle was hit by a freezer van in an intersection of the Cebu South Coastal Road (CSCR) in Barangay San Isidro, Talisay City, earlier Friday, November 3.

Police identified the fatality as Reylito Doronio, 33, a native of Bacoor, Cavite, but temporarily residing in Barangay Dumlog, Talisay City.

Police Officer 1 Ruel Detoya of the Talisay City Traffic Division said Doronio was driving his motorcycle at 5:30 a.m. when he was hit by the freezer van upon crossing the CSCR. The van was driven by Jurie Dela Cruz, 21.

Dela Cruz was reportedly driving toward the City of Naga to secure meat supplies for his firm when he encountered Doronio at the CSCR.

Detoya said that upon impact, Doronio and his motorcycle were dragged a few meters away just before Dela Cruz stopped his van.

Doronio was brought to the Talisay District Hospital for immediate medical attention but he died three hours later.

Police have detained Dela Cruz, pending the filing of charges against him.

Senior Police Officer 1 Achilles Cabando, who is investigating the incident, said witnesses claimed seeing both drivers trying to beat the traffic light on the intersection, resulting in the incident. (JKV/SunStar Cebu)
