Shibby de Guzman, Bretman Rock among TIME's '30 Most Influential Teens'

TWO Filipinos have made it to TIME magazine's "30 Most Influential Teens of 2017".

It's no surprise for internet superstar Bretman Rock to be in included in the list as the makeup enthusiast has over 12 million strong followers across all social media platforms.

Born Bretman Rock Sacayan in Ilocos, the YouTube sensation moved with his family to Hawaii when he was just seven years old.

Aside from his makeup skills, he's known by the online world for his outlandish, hilarious, and straight-to-your-face online attitude. He also has his own makeup line and apparel, which sell like hotcakes.

Bretman, who is very proud of his Filipino roots, visited the Philippines last December for his first ever master class. He also had the opportunity to meet up with his local supporters in Cebu and Manila.

The online sensation was also back in January when he co-hosted the red carpet festivities of the Miss Universe pageant alongside former beauty queen Venus Raj.

Another name who made it on the list is St. Scholastica's College Manila high school student and youth activist Shibby de Guzman.

The 14-year-old made headlines when she joined last year's protest against President Rodrigo Duterte's decision to allow the burial of former dictator Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.

De Guzman also speaks out against Duterte's brutal war on drugs, which earned her bashers online.

She shut her critics down when she dismissed being "brainwashed" to join protests and said she completely understands the injustice she is protesting.

"It's so important that (they) known their own rights and when authorities abuse them. There are values that aren't up for debate," De Guzman was quoted saying.

According to TIME, they considered "accolades across numerous fields, global impact through social media and overall ability to drive news" in picking the 30 names.

Among those who made it in the list are David and Victoria Beckham's son Brooklyn, "Stranger Things" star Millie Bobby Brown, young model Kaia Gerber, Noah Cyrus, Willow and Jaden Smith, Shawn Mendes and young actress Elle Fanning. (SunStar Philippines)
