8 NPA rebels surrender to Wesmincom

EIGHT New People’s Army (NPA) rebels have surrendered on Thursday bringing to a total of 84 NPAs who surrendered to the government within the area of jurisdiction of the Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom).

Lieutenant General Carlito Galvez Jr., Wesmincom chief, said the NPA rebels surrendered around 10 a.m. Thursday to the Joint Task Force Central in Senator Ninoy Aquino town, Sultan Kudarat.

Galvez said the NPA surrenderers, who belong to the GF-73, have turned over two M16 Armalite rifles, two improvised explosive devices, two magazines, and 28 live rounds of ammunition.

He disclosed the surrender of the eight NPA rebels was facilitated by former NPA members Ka Bobby and Ka Jimboy.

He said the surrenderers underwent custodial debriefing conducted by the Army’s 33rd Infantry Battalion.

He said that 84 NPA rebels have surrendered to the Wesmincom troops since January this year to include the eight members who surrendered on Thursday.

Of the total, 59 members of GF-73 yielded to the troops in Sultan Kudarat; a member of GF-68 yielded to the troops in Iligan City; 24 members of the Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee surrendered to the troops of the Joint Task Force ZamPeLan (Zamboanga Peninsula and Lanao).
