HUMAN trafficking cases were filed yesterday against a 66-year-old Danish national who allegedly brought a girl to a beach resort in Barangay Estaca, Compostela.
Josef Bertelsen faces violation of Republic Act (RA) 9208, or the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act as amended by RA 10364, or the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act before the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.
A complaint for violation of RA 7610, or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act was also filed against him.
Section 10 (b) of RA 7610 prohibits any person, foreigner or local, to be in the company of “a minor, 12 years or under or who is 10 years or more his junior in any public or private place, hotel, motel, beer joint, discotheque, cabaret, pension house, sauna or massage parlor, beach and/or other tourist resort or similar places.”
Bertelsen opted to undergo a preliminary investigation and answer the allegations against him at the prosecutor’s office.
The foreigner was caught after the resort’s staff reported him to the police for allegedly bringing an underage girl last Wednesday.
Before they went to the resort, the girl and her sister met Bertelsen in a mall in Cebu City.
He told the police that he is in a relationship with the minor, who hails from Sibonga in southern Cebu. The two met through an online dating website early this year. (KAL)
