THE observance of Undas (All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day) was generally peaceful with no major untoward incidents happening in Davao Region attributed to the comprehensive security plan implemented on the ground.
Police Regional Office (PRO)-Davao spokesperson Andrea dela Cerna said the collaborative effort of different law enforcement agencies, local government unit, volunteer groups and other agencies resulted to the successful security coverage of Undas.
She acknowledged the support and cooperation of the public to the security personnel for voluntarily submitting themselves in checkpoints for security purposes.
As of 6 a.m., Friday, November 3, a total of 981 prohibited items were confiscated by authorities composed of 329 lighters, 21 of bottles of beer, three bottles of Tanduay, eight bottles of Island Mixers, 20 bolos, 12 scissors, 108 grass cutters, 55 blades, 68 cutting tools, 72 packs of cigarettes, 65 sticks of cigarettes, and six hammers.
There were also five butanes, 33 gallons of paint, 31 paints, 17 speakers, two garden tools, one saw, 11 screw drivers, three star screws, eight trowels, four steels (foot size), one chisel, six matches, 72 umbrellas, one guitar, one lawn mower, eight knives, one steel tape, one pack of playing cards, five ballpens, and three scythes.
Task Force Davao (TFD) commander Colonel Nolasco Mempin said that during the during their Oplan Kaluluwa 2017, TFD and its attached units under the direction of Joint Task Force (JTF) Haribon deployed some 500 troops to man the 19 cemeteries of downtown Davao.
Some of these troops came from 1003rd Infantry Brigade, Naval Forces of Eastern Mindanao (NFEM), Eastern Mindanao Command (EMC) and Joint Reserve Task Force (JRTF).
"[We] have successfully conducted its mandated mission of support operations (area security) to PNP and other law enforcement agencies in order to secure the 19 assigned cemeteries and critical/vital installation during observance of Undas 2017," Mempin said.
He added that all designated security forces in all cemeteries have been consolidated for debriefing.
They were on the lookout for suspicious persons and prevent them from launching any terrorist attack.
