Diversion Road closed anew

A LANDSLIDE triggered again the temporary closure of Carlos P. Garcia Highway (Diversion Road) particularly in the landslide-prone area, Old Dumpsite section Saturday, November 4, after boulders fell from the top.

In an interview with SunStar Davao, Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) operation officer Rodrigo Bustillo said that they recommended the road closure after an impending danger occurred due to landslide.

He asked for the understanding of motorists and commuters, especially those who are complaining because of the heavy traffic as their move was only meant to safeguard them against threats after huge rocks collapsed.

Bustillo said that personnel of the Department of Public Works and Highways are doubling their time and effort to fast track the clearing to restore the normal traffic flow.

He said that there are instances that these boulders will fall and they will not compromise the public's safety so they resorted to close the road and advised motorists to take the alternate route.

“On the side of CDRRMO, pag makita namin na may mga (if we see) possible landslide or boulders collapse, we automatically recommend the closure of Diversion Road para as to not compromise our motorists,” Bustillo said.

He added that they also advised DPWH to open the road on Monday.
