5 nabbed in Cebu drug busts

FIVE persons were caught in a series of drug busts in the villages of Duljo Fatima and Tejero, Cebu City, on Sunday dawn, November 5.

Suspects yielded to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Central Visayas 50 grams of white crystals believed to be methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as "shabu."

The contraband is worth P250,000, an estimated market value.

Around 2:30 a.m., PDEA agents caught Jelian Abanes, 33, in Duljo Fatima, yielding 15 grams of shabu worth P75,000.

An hour later, in Tejero, Edelyn Linao, 24, Nijel Valderama, 24, Lucille Ybañez , 39, and Junalie Linao, 19, were arrested.

Agents seized 35 grams of shabu worth P175,000.

Linao, the target of the operation, allegedly can dispose of 200 to 500 grams of shabu per week, while Abanes allegedly can sell 100 to 200 grams of shabu.

Suspects will be charged for violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Selling dangerous drugs is a non-bailable offense. (KAL)
