Diversion Road open on Nov. 6

THE City Government of Davao on Sunday bared that the Diversion Road (Carlos P. Garcia Highway corner Maa to Bangkal) will be opened on Monday, November 6, but will only be passable for light vehicles from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. to give way to clearing operations.

According to an advisory from the City Information Office, all the vehicles going north are advised to pass by McArthur Highway while the trucks and other heavy vehicles are advised to use the Maa Road going to Carlos P. Garcia.

Only light vehicles can also proceed from Maa to Shrine Hills while trucks are advised to take the Maa Road going McArthur Highway.

Last November 4 a landslide again triggered a temporary closure of Diversion Road particularly at the landslide-prone area, Old Dumpsite, after boulders fell from the top.

Based on previous interview with SunStar Davao, Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) operation officer Rodrigo Bustillo said that they recommended the road closure after an impending danger occurred due to landslide.

Bustillo said that personnel of the Department of Public Works and Highways are working double time to fast track the clearing and restore the normal traffic flow. He said that there are instances that these boulders will fall and they will not compromise the public's safety so they resorted to close the road and advised motorists to take the alternate route instead.

He added that they advised DPWH to open the road on Monday. (With reports from JCR)
