The alleged mastermind behind the murder of PO1 Mae Feguis Sasing of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office was caught in Barangay Kaungkod, Madridejos around 10 a.m. last Friday.
Suspect Felix Pastorfide Taytayan was reportedly mad that the lady police officer would not rekindle their relationship, which ended ten years ago.
He was arrested by operatives of Mandaue City Police Office’s (MCPO) City Intelligence Branch (CIB), Investigation and Detective Management Branch (IDMB) and Police Station 3.
Senior Supt. Roberto Alanas, MCPO director, said they have a strong case against the suspect.
He said they have several witnesses who shed light on the police officer’s murder.
Supt. Bernouli Abalos, the CIB and IDMB chief, said they consider the murder of Sasing as crime of passion.
He said the suspect was mad at Sasing, after learning that she had a live-in partner.
“Gusto niya pakasalan siya (He wanted her to marry him),” said Abalos.
Abalos said Taytayan reportedly had a relationship with Sasing when they were still classmates in college, studying criminology. They ended their relationship after they graduated in 2007.
The police chief did not give specific details on when they started their alleged relationship and when it ended.
Sasing was shot dead by two men riding on a motorcycle in Barangay Basak, Mandaue City while she was driving her motorcycle on her way to her house in Consolacion last Oct. 31.
On the same day, a witness saw Taytayan visited Sasing in Lapu-Lapu City Police Office.
Sasing bore no child with Taytayan, but she has a seven-year-old child with her current live-in partner who hails from Palawan.
Sasing reportedly had processed her papers to transfer to a police unit in Palawan late this year or early next year.
The suspect reportedly wanted to be with Sasing again, but he felt disappointed after learning she had a new lover.
Sasing’s sister Jeraline Sasing-Diamada said she is convinced that Taytayan planned the police officer’s murder.
Diamada confronted the suspect after the latter was caught.
“Nangurog gyod tibuok kong lawas pagkakita nako niya (My body shook when I saw him),” she said.
Taytayan’s relatives could not believe he was linked to Sasing’s murder.
“Na-shock mi tanan (We are shocked by his arrest),” said Taytayan’s older brother who refused to be identified.
He said, “Wala miy kalibotan ana (We do not have no knowledge about it),” after he was asked if he knew Taytayan had an affair with Sasing.
Taytayan, who was detained in Mandaue City Police Station 3, refused to face reporters yesterday.
Alanas said the suspect will be presented to the media today.
MCPO is still going after the cohorts of the suspect, who will be charged with murder. (KAL)
