ONE thousand farmers affected by last month’s flashflood triggered by inclement weather condition were given food packs, said City Agriculturist Diosdado Palacat.
Palacat said the food recipients were farmer-residents of the villages of Labuan, Patalon, Sinubong, Talisayan, Pamucutan, La Paz, Tulungatung, Ayala, Maasin and Sinunuc.
Palacat said the food packs were distributed to the farmer-recipients on Friday, November 3.
He also said that the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) had turned over farm implements like seaweeds, squid jiggers, life vest, hook and line and gill net for 510 famers.
The Department of Agriculture also donated 700 sacks of corn seeds, 650 sacks white corn seeds, and 50 bags yellow corn seeds.
The affected farmers in the east coast villages will receive their food packs anytime this week, Palacat said.
The heavy rains and flashflood spawned by the inclement weather from October 14 to 17 had destroyed 3,470 hectares of farm lands and fishponds, affecting a total of 2,499 farmers. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
