Bizman 'transporting' ecstasy tablets nabbed at Laguindingan Airport

AGENTS of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Northern Mindanao has arrested a local businessman at the Laguindingan Airport in Misamis Oriental on Monday, November 6, for allegedly transporting 17 tablets of the party drug ecstasy.

PDEA-Northern Mindanao operatives nabbed Ralph Martin Rafanan, 30, a resident of Corrales Extension and a son of a village chief in Cagayan de Oro City

Authorities seized 17 tablets of methelyndioxymethamphetamine (MMDA), commonly known as party drug Ecstasy weighing 9.044 grams and worth around P51,000.

PDEA-Northern Mindanao agent Ben Calibre said the suspect, who is the son of Barangay 21 village chief Gigi Go, owns a construction supply business.

Calibre said the suspect was arrested after the dangerous drugs concealed in a small plastic bottle was found inside his bag.

Calibre added based on their information, the suspect came from Manila and was supposed to transport the items to the city through the airport.

"Pagnaog niya sa eroplano, giduolan siya sa taga PDEA kay naay information nga naay droga sa iyang bag. Nag-cooperate siya ug didto nakita ang mga items sa small bottle," Calibre said.

"Kani nga info is luto na kaayo from the PNP ug igo na lamang kami nag-conduct sa operation," Calibre added.

Calibre said according to Rafanan the suspected ecstasy was intended for personal consumption.

But the anti-narcotics agents received an information that some of the tablets will be supplied to the suspect's circle of friends.

Calibre said the suspect underwent a drug test on Monday.

Calibre said the PDEA has categorized the suspect as newly identified target but has already been identified by the police.

The suspect was detained at the PDEA-Northern Mindanao jail facility and will be charged with violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act (RA 9165) particularly on transportation of dangerous drugs (section 5), which is non-bailable.
