Marañon backs revolutionary gov’t, but with condition

NEGROS Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. said he is supporting a revolutionary government, but with one condition.

Marañon said Monday it is possible to set up revolutionary government as long as everybody will cooperate, adding it could be done in a year.

Earlier, President Rodrigo Duterte threatened to declare revolutionary government if his critics continue to sabotage his administration.

“I will support it, but there should be a guarantee that there will be change,” the governor said.

He said the overhauling of the system should be done down to the village officials.

As long as it is implemented correctly and if everybody will cooperate, it is possible to run a revolutionary government, Marañon said.

The governor said revolutionary government is not scary and “we have to see to it that it is not abused.”

He said absolute power if done properly is good, adding those who will abuse it should be held accountable.

The 1987 Constitution restricts a sitting president to a single term of six years.

Duterte, in his previous speaking engagements, had been hinting on declaring revolutionary government.

He was quoted saying that revolutionary regime could resolve hindrances to progress.
