Palace suspends gov't work within PICC Complex on November 8-12

MALACAÑANG has announced that work in government offices in the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) Complex in Pasay City will be suspended on November 8 to 12 in preparation for the country's hosting of the 31st Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit and Related Meetings.

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, who signed Memorandum Circular 32 by authority of President Rodrigo Duterte, said the suspension of work in the government offices within the PICC Complex was made upon the recommendation of Asean 2017 National Organizing Council-Office of the Director-General for Operations.

"To ensure uninterrupted delivery of public service on 08-12 November 2017, transactions with front-line government offices, located inside the PICC Complex, may be processed in other business and/or satellite offices of said agencies," the order read.

MC 32 directed government agencies involved in the delivery of basic services, including security and safety, health, and emergency preparedness, and those directly involved in the conduct of various Asean meetings and related activities to "remain open and perform their normal functions."

Medialdea signed the memorandum on November 6, Monday.

Duterte earlier signed Proclamation 332, declaring November 13 to 15 as special non-working days in Manila and provinces of Bulacan and Pampanga, in view of the 31st Asean forum.

More than 20 world leaders, including United States President Donald Trump, are expected to participate in the 31st Asean summit that will be hosted by the President in Manila and in Clark, Pampanga. (SunStar Philippines)
