THE Baguio City Council during their regular session last Monday acted on some priority bills including the passage on first reading of several proposals. Among these measures include the proposed measures introduced by Councilor Elaine Sembrano entitled “Providing for a free general medical examination/checkup for senior citizens in the City of Baguio, during their birth months as a gesture of gratitude for their contributions to the development of the city”, and the other proposal entitled “Designating April 22 and June 5 each year as carless days in the City of Baguio”. Two other proposals penned by Councilor Edgar Avila also passed first reading, one entitled “Regulating and governing e-games, bingo and other games of chance in the city” and another one “Declaring a portion of Rose Garden in Burnham Park as a War Memorial in honor of Soldiers and Policemen from Baguio City and/or the Cordilleras who died in battle”. Councilor Joel Alangsab on the other hand had his proposed ordinance entitled “Amending Ordinance Numbered 093, series of 1994 entitled, ‘Requiring all schools in the city to issue to their students or pupils School Identification Cards (IDs) which include among other data the birthdate, persons to contact in case of emergency and city address of the student or pupil enrolled in their respective schools” also pass the first reading.
Meanwhile the Committee on Public Works headed by Councilor Mylen Yaranon has scheduled a public consultation to discuss the proposal on “Smarter Roads” to ease traffic congestion in the city. The said discussions will be held at 9 a.m., on Tuesday, November 14, at City Council Hall.
