Bonsai Society 40th Anniversary

THE Cebu Bonsai Society (CBS) its 40th anniversary with a bonsai competition and exhibition on Oct. 6 to 8 at the Ayala Activity Center in Cebu City.

The three-day event, which was held in partnership with the Philippine Bonsai Society Inc. (PBSI) and Ayala Center Cebu, showcased a beautiful array of bonsai trees and natural stones, and also featured a workshop and demonstration by Taiwan’s bonsai master Tang Chin Feng.

Established in 1977, the Cebu Bonsai Society is the oldest group dedicated to the Japanese art form in the Philippines.

At the opening ceremony last Oct. 6, the ribbon was cut by Ayala Center Cebu’s general manager Bong Dy.

She was joined by CBS president Lito Alansalon, PBSI’s secretary-general Yumie Gupit, Japanese Consul of Cebu Chiharu Tsurouka, former CBS president Norma Sanches, and Taiwanese bonsai master Tan Chin Feng.
