MACABEBE -- Nineteen employees of the Vice Mayor's Office here are now jobless.
Vice Mayor Vince Flores said he did not expect that the employees would be removed from his office last October 15, days after he and his father ex-Mayor Leonardo "Bobong" Flores, who is seeking the mayoral post here, filed their certificates of candidacy for the 2016 polls on October 12.
"Nabigla ako doon eh. Actually, walang possible grounds kung bakit nila sila aalisin. Job Order employees lang sila lahat. Hindi naman permanent. Pwede nilang tanggalin pero hindi ko alam bakit ngayon nila tinanggal," Flores said.
Flores added that he asked Fourth District Representative Juan Pablo "Rimpy" Bondoc to absorb his former employees.
"Nilalakad ko sila kay Congressman Bondoc na i-absorb nga sila kasi kawawa din dahil nga walang trabaho," Flores said.
Flores noted that his dad and Bondoc already discussed the concern of the terminated employees.
"Bondoc and my dad discussed the issue and there is a possibility that around 90 percent to 95 percent the employees will be absorbed by him," he said.
The vice mayor also said that he sent text messages to Mayor Annette Balgan to discuss the issue but the latter reportedly did not reply.
"I texted my auntie (Balgan) about the issue but she did not reply and also my cousin Bembong Balgan. I called her around four times but she rejected my calls," Flores said.
Municipal Administrator Jomel Cruz confirmed that the retrenched employees are job order personnel.
"All of them are not permanent employees," he said.
Sun.Star Pampanga tried but was unable to reach Balgan for comment at press time.
