Robbery suspect now in police custody

THE person of interest behind the robbery incident of a woman who was held up and now in critical condition after sustaining stab wounds at Palm Village Subdivision in Barangay Paciano Bangoy, Davao City, last week, is under the custody of the authorities.

Davao City Police Office (DCPO) spokesperson Police Chief Inspector Ma. Teresita Gaspan said that investigation is ongoing to apprehend the suspects behind the robbery incident. One of the two suspects is now under the custody of Sta. Ana Police but they could not charge him yet since the victim could not speak to confirm his identity.

“We already have the persons of interest and now detained in Sta. Ana Police Station, however, as to the filing of the case, the victim is still in the hospital and cannot converse,” she said.

Based on police report of Sta. Ana PNP, the victim was identified as Pauline Chan Ortiz, 26, a general accounting supervisor and a resident of Purok 14-A Tibal-og Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte. She was held up by two identified persons and took away her cellphone and cash. She is at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to recuperate.

Gaspan said that according to the commander of Sta. Ana PNP, the suspects are not from Davao City. She cited that their action was taken by a closed-circuit television (CCTV), if the suspects are residing in the area, they have known that there is a CCTV there.

“Confident masyado na naglakad papunta ng Dacudao,” he said.

Gaspan said that they have empowered the barangay tanods through their Oplan Iron Fortress (Fortification of Residences towards a Restful Environment that is Secured and Safe) to curb criminalities in the communities and avoid similar incidents to happen.
