Del Monte jungolf team tops Alta Vista tilt

AFTER 9 long years, the Del Monte jungolf team in Camp Phillips, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon finally won the overall championship in the Alta Vista 13th Challenge Junior Golf Tournament held recently in Cebu City.

Anchored by Cagayan de Oro-based players such as Bugo pride Clement Ordeñeza and Cliff Richard Nuñeza of International School (IS) in brgy. Kauswagan, the Del Monte jungolf team parbusters appeared fully-motivated in besting the field of the annually-held junior golfest.

The curly-haired Nuñeza, touted as the `Little Tiger Woods’ of Cagayan de Oro, stamped his class in winning the Class D event for 9 to 10 years old.

This, as Ordeñeza held his ground in lording it over in Class E below level.

Three more Del Monte bets were equally impressive in bringing home the bacons.

Rolando Bregente topped the Class B division (13-14 yrs old), Mark Ivan Parilla dominated the Class C category (11-12) and lady golfer Sophia Abby Abarcas sizzled in Class C girls rivalry for 11-12 years old participants.

“Last year nangdaug gihapon sila sa Alta Vista, pero dili parehas karon na year nga sila gyod ang nakapabalik sa Del Monte jungolf team as overall champion after 9 years,” shared Cliff’s doting mother, Marivic Nuñeza.

The Del Monte wards will try their luck anew in another junior golf tourney set to open on Sunday at Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club in Cagayan de Oro.

“Mas dako and mas challenging ni nga tournament kay ilang ma-encounter ang mga top young talents like those from Davao, Cebu and Manila,” the elder Nuñeza further told SunStar Cagayan de Oro.
