'Customs quarrel' leaves 1 dead, another wounded

TWO men, who reportedly have linkages with the local Bureau of Customs, were allegedly engaged in a gun fight that left one dead and another wounded on Thursday night, November 9, at Box-1, Barangay Macasandig, Cagayan de Oro City.

Police identified the victim as Roy Ancajas, 45, a native of Mabolo, Cebu City, who was allegedly an enforcer of the Customs police division based on the identification card recovered from his lifeless body.

The suspect Joed Pasasadaba is said to be a customs broker and a resident of Upper Balulang, this city.

Operatives also arrested the suspect's driver Seigfred Roxas, who could give the exact details on what had really transpired on that fateful night.

The slain Ancajas and the wounded Pasasadaba were believed to have engaged in gun battle as both of them sustained bullet wounds on the different parts of their bodies.

Senior Inspector Abdul Alim Sumandar, chief of police station 9, said they responded a call from a concerned citizen who reported the presence of a lifeless body at the roadside of Macasandig.

Authorities intercepted later Pasasadaba's vehicle at the JR Borja General Hospital where he received medical attention.

"Usa sa angle nga atong nakita nga nagpinusilay sila. Gahulat pa ta makakuha og statement from Pasasadaba kay dili pa siya kaistorya tungod sa gunshot wound sa iyang liog (One of the angles is that there could be an exchange of gun fire between the two. We are still waiting for the statement of the suspect who, for now, cannot speak because of the gunshot wound on his neck)," Sumandar said.

Sumandar said the driver Roxas, who is now detained at the jail facility of police station 9, had already told them the location of the gun used in the fatal shootout.

All of the identified men involved, Sumandar said, will have to undergo a paraffin test as probers still remain clueless on the motive behind the incident.

“Ang among na-gather sa pagkakaron nga adunay personnel from the Bureau of Customs who reported that the ID of Ancajas was fake while Pasasadaba's family had confirmed that the suspect is licensed customs broker,” Sumandar further told SunStar Cagayan de Oro.
